Taxis at Haywards Heath Station
A practical guide to taxi pickups and drop-offs at Haywards Heath railway station, including late trains from London.
The taxi rank
The official taxi rank is on the east side (London-bound platform side) of Haywards Heath station, just outside the main entrance on Boltro Road. During the day there are usually one or two licensed Hackney cabs waiting. Demand outstrips supply at peak times — if the rank is empty, your best move is to book on your phone (see below) rather than wait.
Pre-booking a station pickup
Pre-booking is faster, especially for the 5–10 minute window after a busy London train arrives:
- Open the booking form on our homepage while you’re still on the train.
- Set pickup as “Haywards Heath Station, Boltro Road”.
- Choose “ASAP” or pick a time 5–10 minutes after your scheduled arrival.
- Confirm. Your driver will be assigned and on their way before you walk off the platform.
Average pickup time at the station is under 5 minutes outside peak commuting hours, and 7–12 minutes at peak.
Where to wait
- Default pickup: the short-stay drop-off bays on Boltro Road, immediately outside the main entrance.
- If it’s raining or cold: stay inside the ticket hall until you see your driver’s name and reg in the SMS tracking link, then step out.
- West side / Perrymount Road: a quieter pickup point if the east-side bays are full. Tell the driver in the booking notes if you’re waiting on the west side.
Late-night trains
The last weekday train from London Victoria typically arrives at Haywards Heath around 00:35– 01:00. On weekends, last trains can run as late as 01:30. The official rank is usually empty by then.
Pre-book before you leave London. A driver is much more likely to be there waiting when you step off the train than to materialise on demand at 1am.
Strikes and rail replacement
On rail strike days, demand surges — especially for journeys to Gatwick (people getting to flights) and Brighton (commuters). Book as far in advance as you can. Where possible we put extra dispatchers on and prioritise pre-booked station runs.
Returning to the station
For trains home, book the taxi to arrive at the station 15–20 minutes before your train:
- The drop-off bay can be busy at peak — allow time to step out and walk to the platform.
- Buy your ticket online beforehand if you can; the ticket office queues can be slow.
- Mention if you have heavy bags so a driver with luggage space is assigned.
Accessibility
Haywards Heath station has step-free access via lifts. Wheelchair-accessible taxis are available — tick the option in the booking form and allow ~30% extra time for loading and the journey.
